Shelly Lowenkopf
Created by Richard Fliegel (1954--)

Although originally a string of novels featuring tough, Jewish cop SHELLY LOWENKOPF whose turf is Allerton Avenue in New Yawk, the series took a turn towards the P.I. side of things when Shelly left the force to become a private eye in A Minyan for the Dead (1993), which was promptly nominated for a Shamus by the Private Eye Writers of America

He's now working for Maxim B. Pfeiffer & Sons, a security firm, and he's doing pretty good, especially considering it was a heart attack that forced him to leave the force. But, like they say, you can took the cop out of the force, but you can't take the cop out of the man. A well-written series, with a touch of quirky humour. Check 'em out!
