Elvis Ford and Jesse Weir
Created by --

The Strip, a flashy TV show about a black and white pair of lippy young police officers who go to work for a casino owner, premiered on UPN on October 12, 1999.

ELVIS FORD was the white guy, played by a rather scruffy-looking Sean Patrick Flannery (Young Indianna Jones). He was kicked off the force for his part in a botched bogus slot machine arrest involving undercover FBI agents. His parner, JESSE WEIR, a fast-talking black guy with the annoying habit of spouting pop culture references at all the wrong times, resigned in protest of elvis' dismissal.

Suddenly out of work, they're approached by the wner of Caesar's Palace, Cameron Greene (played by Joe Viterelli), who hires them as his own personal security team. They're also expected to serve as his troubleshooters (with the accent on "shooter"), to help protect his interests and his customers.

Unfortunately, the show was basically a retread of previous shows like Simon and Simon, Magnum P.I. and, especially, Vega$, none of which were exactly ground-breaking, either. Lots of shots of neon lights, the usual female love interests getting taken hostage with alarming frequency, hard-ass police detectives warning them off the case, lots of car chases and shootouts, and all the other stuff we've come to expect. And, of course, no matter how many guys were trying to kill Elvis and Jesse, they always managed to find some time to stop and crack wise. Oh, the cutting-edge hilarity of it all! I mean, why hire actual writers when you can just stage another shootout or car chase?

After nine episodes, the plug was pulled.
