Wannabe actress and sometime private eye FRAN VARADY doesn't have to go down those mean streets -- she's already on them.
Hungarian born, but living in a London squat with a leaking roof when we first meet her, twentyish out-of-work thespian (aren't they all?) Varady walks that fine line between amateur sleuth (albeit, with attitude) and private eye.
Yes, she does stumble into an inordinate amount of crime while working her way through a series of odd jobs to support her acting career, but she also accepts money to investigate those crimes. As Christine M. Garvey puts it in Crime Time, "a welcome addition to the ever-growing stable of British female PI's."
