HERRINGBONE TWEEDE (I kid you not) is a soft-hearted, mild-mannered Los Angeles private detective, tired of doing divorce work, who decides to pack it all in and head on down the road, leaving behind the very mean, and evidently divorce-ridden streets of LaLaLand for the hopefully more peaceful (and more conducive to happy domestic relations) environs of Salt Lake City.
This is all on the advice of his Mormon buddy, LAPD administrator Paul Holroyd. But once he arrives in Utah, the thoroughly WASPy Tweede discovers that he's the ultimate outsider, constantly baffled by the Mormon culture.
But he's learning. He's set up an office on the second floor of a downtown building, found a name for his new agency (Desert Industries), and he's ready for business. He's even found himself a new cop buddy, Lieutenant Brady, a friend of his old pal paul back in LA.
Not a bad series of short stories; sometimes quite remniscient of John Lutz's Alo Nudger at times.
