Some Girls Just Wanna Have Fun:
Bimbo Eyes and Some Other Embarrassments

Before there was V.I., before there was Kinsey, before all of them, there were some other, less-distinguished female detectives. Usually written by men (but not always!), their pulchritudinous assets usually far outweighed their mental equipment, to paraphrase one critic. And then there were those travesties, where so-called "understanding" authors would have some woman detective, usually scarred by rape or parental abuse, turn into some psycho avenger, only to be redeemed by a good man (after a raunchy sex scene, of course!). But like it or not, they reflected their times and their attitudes towards women perfectly. And someone must have bought all those books.
