For those of you desperate for an Icelandic private eye, the long wait is finally over.
Or at least almost.
Strictly speaking, THÓRA GUDMUNDSDÓTTIR isn't a private eye, but a small time attorney who just happens to take a hands-on approach to investigating on behalf of her clients.
Divorced and raising two children on her own, ThóIn the mystical Sn∆fellsnes region on Icelandís west coastóat a New Age health resort in a renovated farmhouseóthe body of a young woman is discovered, savagely beaten, with pins inserted into her feet. Th”ra Gudmundsd”ttir, lawyer and singlra is a tenacious, no-nonsense investigator whose cases nonetheless tend toward at least the appearance of the supernatural. In her 2007 debut, Last Rituals, demon worship and witchcraft are involved, and in its 2009 sequel, the Shamus-nominated My Soul to Take, she's called upon to investigate claims that a house she helped a client purchase may be haunted.
Aiding her in this dark, atmospheric series is former Munich police officer and sometime love interest Matthew Reich.
