Matthew Slade

Not a great deal is known about the production of the Matthew Slade, P.I. radio show. It was syndicated in the 1960s and Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS) aired it under a title they made up: "Starlight Mystery Theater". Apaprently 13 shows have survived (most of them AFRS copies.)

MATTHEW SLADE is a San Francisco investigator and his secretary, Lorretta Jones, is referred to by all as "Jonesy." Slade's local pal in the Homicide Bureau, Sgt. Sid Donelli, appears in nearly all episodes. Slade charges clients "$200 a day plus expences", drives a Continental, and ends up in some rather exotic adventures. In one program, a model named Clover Shannon is killed by one of 12 members of an exclusive "Bachelor's Club". In another, Slade is tortured by a crazed German scientist, who has imprisoned Slade in his castle near Lake Tahoe.
