René-Charles Rey
(pseudo. Jean Mazarin, Emmanuel Errer)
(1934-)

His real name is René-Charles Rey (Initials R.R = Errer), and he lives in Chilly-Mazarin! He is a prolific author. He has published over 50 books in several genres. Under the name of Errer, he has written noir novels which were published in the Série Noire.

Under the name of Jean Mazarin he has written several humorous books published in the Fleuve Noir featuring Nice private eye FRANKIE PAT PUNTACAVELLO and his extended, eccentric family. in these, Rey manages to portray the life of French "expatriates" from Algeria ( people which were obliged to flee after the war and are living on the French Riviera ). These people (called 'les pieds noirs') have brought with them the atmosphere, langage and living conditions of Algeria...

Under the same pseudonym, and as far as I know there are three other recurring characters: Esope Mazonetta (an Italiann crook who lives on the Riviera and also has a colourful familly), Lucien Poirel (a serious Inspector of la Police Judiciaire), and Max Bichon ( a second-rate reporter). Under the pen name of Errer there is no recurring character.

Rey has won an appreciated literary prize in France Le grand prix de la littérature policière in 1983
