Tres Navarre
Created by Rick Riordan
TRES NAVARRE is many things -- an unlicensed TexMex private eye, a tequila drinker, tai chi master and an outcast from Academia with a PhD in medieval studies. After ten years in the City by the Bay, he heads on home to San Antonio, hoping to put to rest old memories of the murder of his father, formerly the Sheriff of Bexar County. At the end of the first book in the series, Tres decides to stick around. Maybe you can go home again...
In fact, Big Red Tequila (1997) made quite a splash, attracting a lot of attention, for a PBO. The big book (maybe a little too big and wordy according to some) managed to hit the bestseller lists, and even win a Shamus for Best First P.I. Novel.
And with the third novel, The Last King of Texas, Tres made the jump to hardcover. An interesting addition to the P.I. ranks, and a series to watch, although these days, rick may be too busy writing his best-selling young adult series featuring Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
