Tug Wyler

Created by Andy Siegel

New York shyster and hands-on investigator TUG WYLER is a fall-and-crack man; a streetwise specialist in personal injuries who knows how to work the legal system. But he steps up his game in his debut, the surprisingly feisty Suzy's Case (2012), when the usual penny ante cases fall by the wayside and he takes on the case against a major hospital on behalf of Suzy, a girl with sickle-cell anemia whose negligent care apparently resulted in severe brain damage.

Sure, it sounds like a movie of the week, but it turns out that Tug's gift of gab extends to his narration of this funny, quirky and captivating read, balancing hard-boiled wit and grit with likable characters... and a simmering sense of outrage.

Even better news? Turns out Tug's returned in a couple of sequels (so far).

  • "Anyone who can write a thriller this breezy and fascinating about medical malpractice... is someone to keep track of, ideally with a device."
