The name's Rainbow...
A big-hearted tribute to the cheesy, sometimes sleazy but always colourful days of the pulps, MISTER RAINBOW may be a man of mystery/private eye with his gumshoes purportedly planted in the here and now of Sydney, Australia, but his cases harken back to another time. Hell, he's even got an arch-enemy!
He lives on a "crappy little" boat floating in the harbour, speaks like Bogie on a caffeine binge and spits out similes like he gets paid by the pound.
The blurbs suggest the series offers "a wink and a nod to the golden age of pulp fiction" but there's enough au courant paranoia and knowing cheekiness splattered about to allow this one to raise its head up above the crowd of retro-photocopiers, ham-handed revisionistsx and fedora fetishists.
It's clear the author's having fun here -- you will too.
