Created by Howard Blair
Yet another of those "indie" series that seems to spontaneously pop up from out of nowhere, the HARRY STARKE private eye novels by Howard Blair were like a burst of weeds springing out of a crack in the driveway, seemingly overnight.
Consider: a series of eight or so complete novels all featuring the same hero, arriving in paperback, audio and Kindle (of course) all in just over a year, by an author hardly anybody ever heard of before.
Are these guys really that fast, or do they never sleep, or have they stockpiled a pile of rejected (or never submitted) manuscripts over the years in a desk drawer, waiting for the right moment to to dump them all on Amazon, strategically spaced a few months apart?
Whatver. For what it matters, Harry's an ex-cop from Chatanooga now working as a private detective, and pretty much checks off all the boxes on the list. According to his creator, a retired journalist, Harry is "a big fish in a small pond. He's a tough individual with a past and a conscience. He has friends in high places. He's single, successful, wealthy, a womanizer, well educated, and he will hurt you if he needs to."
Which may be why he always goes around strapped.
The books seem to be well received by readers on Amazon -- the first book in the series, Harry Starke (2015) received over " 250 Five and Four-star Reviews," with comparisons to everyone from Robert B. parker and Mickey Spillance to Stuart Woods and Marget (sic) Truman. Apparent a lot of readers couldn't "put it down" and several mentioned the books were "easy to understand."
"And there are more Harry Starke stories on the way," we're assured.
