Charlotte, North Carolina gumshoe EARL MARCUS bid adieu to the North Georgia mountains where he grew up years ago; the son of batshit crazy Ronald Jackson Marcus, the snake-handling fundamentalist preacher of the local Church of the Holy Flame.

His father's body was found in the woods a month ago, but rumours of his death more have been premature, and so Earl finds himself homeward bound.
