Barney Harris
Created by Ed Lacy
(pseud. of Leonard S. Zinberg; 1911-1968)

Yet another of Ed Lacy's numerous private eyes, BARNEY HARRIS is a 248-pound auto mechanic and part-time PI based in New York City who is hired by a cop's widow to root out police corruption and nail her husband's murderer, after he and a young contest winner are found murdered.

Reluctant to get involved -- he only does private investigation work as a sideline, and then it's usually just skiptracing -- the widow finally convinces Barney.

Author Lacy (actually Leonard S. Zinberg) is best known for creating the ground-breaking African-American private eye Toussaint Moore, but he's also responsible for some other fine hard-boiled detectives, including as Hal Darling, Barney Harris, John O'Hara, Matt Ranzino, Lee Hayes and Billy Wallace.
