Angela Matelli

Created by Wendi Lee

"Almost thirty" Boston P.I. ANGELA "ANGIE" MATELLI is a former Marine who knows how to take care of herself and isn't afraid to give justice a little nudge in the right direction every now and then. Her best pal is Raina, the East Boston police dispatcher. And she keeps in touch with Rosa, her kid sister. In fact, besides all the usual problems of a private eye, Angie has to put up with being a "good Italian girl"and the sticky tentacles of a loving family. Angie's one of the better of the female eyes, with a real working-class sense of spunk that adds greatly to the series. Angie made her debut in a short story published in the premiere issue of Noir, a now-defunct comic book-size mystery magazine.

Author Lee also writes the Jefferson Birch series, about a private eye in the days of the Old West. And keeping it all in the family, she's married to cartoonist Terry Beatty, whose comic work includes Ms. Tree, Mike Mist, Johnny Dynamite and Mike Danger. They live in Muscatine, Iowa. Lee has been a full-time writer for over ten years, and teaches writing workshops. She's worked as an associate editor of Mystery Scene and wrote a well-received American historical called The Overland Trail for the Tor/Forge's Women of the West series. Wendi is a member of the Private Eye Writers of America, The Mystery Writers of America, The Western Writers of America and Women Writing the West.
