Here's another plucky young woman in the burgeoning field of the historical "private eye" novel. It's 1875, and MAGGIE MAGUIRE's a tough, ambitious and stubbornly adventurous former carny who decides working for the Pinkerton National Detective Agency just isn't challenging enough. So she packs up her possessions, tenders her resignation and heads off for San Francisco, to set up her own agency.
