Billed as a "romantic comedy", this Canadian indie flick is long on standard P.I. clichés and rather short on innovation. RANDY "FRENCHIE" LAFLEUR is a former MUC cop from Montreal now working as a private eye in Las Vegas. That's about it for innovation.
He's your typical rough, tough gumshoe who drinks too much, and his life is a mess, of course. In walks a breath-takingly beautiful, albeit mysterious, femme fatale of a client. She's a casino operator who wants Frenchie to look into the death of her boyfriend. Frenchie narrates the tale of lust, jealousy and revenge into his his home video camera.
Not funny enough to cut it as parody, and not interesting enough to make it as a drama. It takes a few pokes at contemporary mores and various New Age types, but nothing to make this more than a minor flick. At least, that seems to be the critical consensus.
