SAM MOSES KELLY is a black, balding, pudgy, easy-going New York private eye who works out of his suite at the Hotel Castlereagh, where he also serves as house dick. He doesn't particularly like hurting folks, much less killing them, so his weapon of choice is a Astra .25 Colt Cub and his preferred targets include kneecaps and shoulders. A quiet man, of refined tastes, Sam enjoys good cigars, classical music, the occasional Jack Daniels, and the company of his significant other, Madame Bobby, whose occupation is just about what you think it might be.
