Nathan Hawk
Created by Bob McKnight (1906-1981)
Tough guy eye NATHAN HAWK,
transplanted northerner in Sun City, Florida, shot and slugged
his way through ten novels published by ACE in the late fifties
and early sixties. Detective Lieutenant Toby Duane lends a hand
when he can, and dishes out plenty of friendly "damn yankee"
jibes along the way.
The stories are pretty good in this fast-paced series, and there are plenty of interesting Florida locales to set the scene. Most of these stories were published as part of the ACE Mystery Double series, an interesting concept in that there are two front covers and no back cover. When you turn the book over there is the front cover of the second (or first?) story. If you are looking for any of these novels at a garage sale or flea-market, make sure you check the back covers of other ACE Mystery Double books as well, you never know what may be lurking on the other side.
Author McKnight was a mining engineer, pilot and horseracing handicapper before semi-retiring to Florida.
