Nicholas Street
Created by Nat Schachner

One of the very first of the pulp's so-called "defective detectives," private eye NICHOLAS STREET suffered from amnesia, thanks to a severe blow to the head. When we first meet him, he's only recently sprung from the hospital. He solved other people's mysteries, but could never quite solve his own. The only clue he has to his identity is a valuable antique jade ring, that may or may not come from the Ming Dynasty. He made his debut in the same issue of Dime Mystery Magazine, as another defective dick, John Kobler's Peter Quest.

In many ways, Street was a precursor to Memento's Leonard Shelby.
