Slater
Created by Joe R. Lansdale
SLATER was a private eye created by Joe R. Lansdale, back in the days when he and Lewis Shiner were pumping out stories for Mike Shayne's Mystery Magazine.
In 1998, Private Eye Action As You Like It, a limited edition collection of Lansdale and Shiner's early work was released, with new introductions by the authors and cover artwork by George Pratt, artist of DC Comics' Enemy Ace. A well as several Slater stories, there are P.I. stories featuring Sloane, by Lewis Shiner and Talbot by both Lansdale and Shiner.
"Mojo storyteller" Joe R. Lansdale is the man behind
the gonzo crime-solving duo of Hap Collins
& Leonard Pine. He hails from Texas and seems to be
able to spin a yarn in just about any genre writes with the verve
and outlandish wit of a born storyteller. His books--peopled with
losers, just plain folks, and distinctly evil personalities--are
frightening, grisly, and darkly humorous. Lansdale seems equally
comfortable writing in a number of genres: horror, western, crime,
and fantasy. In some cases he's combined a couple of genres, and
in particular has raised the profile of the "Horror Western."
Joe R. Lansdale has had many careers, as martial artist, horror
writer (The Nightrunners, By Bizarre
Hands), suspense novelist (The Two-Bear Mambo,
Bad Chili) and most recently as author of dark
crime hybrids, equal parts James M. Cain, Harper
Lee and Flannery O'Connor, but unmistakably the
product of hisownself's distinctive imagination
(Freezer Burn, The Bottoms).
Subterranean Press is proud to have an
ongoing relationship with
Lansdale, which encompasses the release of
many unpublished works
in The Lost Lansdale series, through the release
of regular signed first
editions of his newer mainstream releases,
and new work written solely
for Subterranean. Some of these future projects
will likely include
brand new exclusive work, including original
novels The Drive-in 3
and The Adventures of the Haint: a pulp novel,
an original thriller
novella not yet titled, as well as such Lost
Lansdale titles as For a
Few Stories More, a book of memoirs, and a
children's omnibus
volume.Batman animated Series
