Although THACKERAY PHIN is a former university philosopher turned private detective, he's a long way from hard-boiled. In fact, he's closer to the "great detective" school of sleuthing, frequently tackling "locked room mysteries."

The author, however, was primarliy regarded as a science fiction author, known mostly for his satirical and surreal novels.
