Here's a new twist. JANE BUNKER is a former Dade County homicide detective returned home to Green Haven, Maine, where she hopes to work as a marine insurance investigator and find a little peace and quiet. Suffice it to say things get a little nautical.
But don't dismiss this out of hand, as some simpy niche-marketed cozy. Both the detective and her creator are the real deal and they know what they're doing.
Linda Greenlaw's the author of a slew of non-fiction bestsellers, including The Hungry Ocean, All Fishermen Are Liars and The Lobster Chronicles. Before becoming a writer, she was the captain of a swordboat, which earned her a prominent role in Sebastian Junger's own best-selling The Perfect Storm. He described her as ''one of the best captains, period, on the entire East Coast. When the Hannah Boden (Greenlaw's boat) unloads her catch in Gloucester, swordfish prices plummet halfway across the world.''
Yeah, she's the hard-ass captain so memorably portrayed by Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in the movie. Greenlaw now lives on Isle au Haut, Maine, where she still writes, and captains a lobster boat.
Report respectfully submitted by Kevin Burton Smith.
