In her one appearance to date, 1998's Head Case, "tough, wounded beauty and P.I." JESSIE BALES is hired by an amnesia victim who's become something of a cause celebre in the national media. "John Doe" wants her to discover his true identity, and find out why everyone's trying to kill him.. She comes across a secret police file, a madman's diary, and a trail of mutilated bodies -- and realizes she just might be falling in love with her client.
Who might be a vicious killer.
Perhaps the most notable thing about this one was the pure savagery of the Kirkus review at the time, which went on at length about how deriviative the plot was, and offered a few less-than-sterling examples of Bonansinga's prose before concluding "That's writing? That's typing."
There's never been a follow-up to Head Case, but Bonansinga's continued to write: thrillers, horror stories, screenplays and a series of tie-in novels for Robert Kirkman's populat The Walking Dead.
A pretty decent web site, and Jay seems to have a pretty good sense of humor about things.
