The mean streets of Glasgow in the post-war 1950s were no place for a soft man.

Good for him, then, that LENNOX, the no-nonsense "private enquiry agency" who's the hero of Craig Russell's rock-solid series, is a very hard man indeed.Author Willis Todhunter Ballard was one of the more prolific and talented pulpsters, writng mostly westerns and mysteries, and he continued writing novels long after the pulp market dried up. He wrote novels about P.I.'s Sam Boyd and Mark Foran, and as Neil McNeil he wrote about the private eye team of Tony Costaine and Bert McCall. After WWII, when Ballard claimed that you couldn't even give detective stories away, he turned to writing westerns as Todhunter Ballard. In fact, the novel Gold in California

Maybe it was a lot of hockey as a kid. Turns out Lennox grew up in Canada. Might also explain the smart mouth.

Lennox's creator, Craig Russell, is also the author of a series of novels featuring Jan Fabel, head of the Homicide Squad in Hamburg, Germany.
