Zebulion Buck and Jim Dunn
Created by Hugh Lawrence Nelson
ZEBULION BUCK and JIM DUNN, who run the Pine detective Agency in Denver, Colorado.
Zeb is part Indian and has contacts in Washington, D.C. while Jim is from Texas and apparently gets top billing in the series, at least according to Hubin. Solid P.I. action, perhaps nothing really above average, except that in a refreshing change, their cases frequently get them out into the Great Outdoors, a place most P.I.s seem to avoid like the plague.
In The Season for Murder (1952), for example, they pose as avalanche experts while searching for a missing plane and in Ring the Bell at Zero (1949), they end up snowbound with a murderer in an abandoned mining town.
The outdoor scenes are handled very well indeed, adding an extra layer of adventure to the series.
