Haskell Blevins
Created by Taylor McCafferty (pseud.
of Barbara McCafferty)
HASKELL BLEVINS is the best private detective in Pigeon Fork, Kentucky, a small town of rather eccentric individuals that bears more than a passing resemblance to Joan Hess' Maggody, Arkansas. Yep, Haskell is not only the best P.I. in town, he's also the only one. He has an office over his brother Elmo's drugstore, and the biggest case in the first four months after he left the Louisville Police Department revolved around some missing feed sacks.
Dog lovers will also get a kick out of Haskell's relationship with dog, R.I.P. (pronounced Rip). The poor pooch has a stairs problem-- he won't use them. So Haskell has to lug this 60+ pound mutt up and down the porch steps just so R.I.P. can relieve himself.
An admittedly soft-boiled, but rather enjoyable series. A good front porch read.
