Juan Madrid
(1947- )
Spanish detective novelist Juan Madrid was born in Malaga in 1947. He is an investigative reporter at Cambio 16. He has written four novels so far featuring former boxer and an ex-cop TONI ROMANO (his main character). Closer than M.V.Montalban to the American noir novelists, he's been a strong critic of the devastation left by Franco's system of government. no doubt that's the reason his first novel wasn't published until after Franco's death. A writer whose view is decidedly street-level, there's an intersting interview by conducted by a female American writer in a Madrid porno club in The Armchair Detective (Summer 1986, Vol. 19, #3).
