Billings, Montana's PHOEBE SIEGEL is a tough, strong-minded private eye, with more than a bit of family history, in this excellent, and well-received series. Family histories and spirituality play a large part in the stories, as does the colourful Montana setting.

Her debut, 1993's By Evil Means, was nominated for the Hammett Prize, and both that novel and 1994's The Killing of Monday Brown were nominated for a Shamus.
