A bit of a schemer (but evidently not enough of one) Baltimore's LOWELL RANSOM is a Vietnam vet who quits his white collar job to become a private eye, much to the dismay of his wife, who promptly chucks him out of the house. Lowell's only appearance, as far as I know, was in 1991's Baltimore Blues.

• Coincidentally, Laura Lippman's own Charm City eye, TESS MONAGHAN, also made her debut in a book entitled Baltimore Blues.
