Flavius Maximus
Created by Wayne and Shuster
Canadian comedy teamWayne & Shuster's ancient Roman P.I., FLAVIUS MAXIMUS first appeared on the radio in their classic tale, "Rinse The Blood From My Toga", on CBC radio in the 50's. In this case, he was hired to discover who bumped off "Big Julie" (a.k.a. Julius Caesar). It was done in their inimitable style and was filled with sight gags and bad jokes (in a bar: Flavius: "Bartender. Give me a martinus." Bartender: "Don't you mean martini?" Flavius: "If I want more than one, I'll order more than one.).
They redid this sketch many times over (and over and over and
over) on their TV series, and they also had Flavius appear
in a mystery about arson in ancient Rome, called in by Nero himself.
